The German Medical Technology Association (BVMed) was clearly in favor of new access routes for digital and telemedicine services at this year's "conhIT" exhibition in Berlin. The development of a new supply area "digital medicine" could set the course for this. The definition of new and specific requirements for the evaluation of digital products and services and a separate reimbursement structure would, according to BVMed, ensure that Germany will become a pioneer in the field of digital medicine in the upcoming years, thus ensuring a sustainable digital health care.

Digital medicine has been on everyone's lips for a long time, but its broad use in Germany is not yet established. Although the ehealth law of 2016 has laid the foundation for the digitalization of the German healthcare system, technical and regulatory expansion is proceeding rather slowly. There is no shortage of potential customers or patients for digital health services and numerous pilot projects have been initiated, but the widespread promotion and establishment of such applications is still pending.

According to BVMed, the prerequisite for the success of digital medicine is that all relevant stakeholders are integrated and networked in the process. Together, they should define an ehealth vision, derive a strategy and digitally map existing health care processes holistically. Therefore, it is still a long way to go but it seems that the first steps have been taken in the right direction, so that digitalization in the health sector will soon be indispensable as well.

If you want to enter the broad field of digital medicine with your organization or your specific product, we would be delighted to support you. You can contact us here. For exciting discussions around the topic of digital health we would also like to invite you to our event Digital Health Forum No. 8, on June 13th, as part of CEBIT (Hall 26).
