An insight into our daily work life during Corona

Tue, 2021 / 03 / 30
At the turn of the year 2019/2020 the municipal health commission of Wuhan reported an outbreak of pneumonia of unclear cause in Wuhan in the Chinese province of Hubei to the World Health Organization (WHO). Less than two weeks later, the origin of the mysterious disease was identified: a new Corona virus, initially defined as 2019-nCoV and at present known as SARS-CoV-2, the pathogen of COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019). Since then, the virus has gripped the world.

Today, more than a year later, we are celebrating the second Easter holiday in a row in nationwide lockdown due to the rapid rise in infection numbers and with the aim to protect risk groups and to interrupt infection chains. The pandemic has a direct impact on all aspects of our lives, consequently forcing us to develop new ideas on how we can continue to work together safely and effectively.

Here at SKC we have risen to the challenge by flexibly adjusting our daily work life to the continuously changing situation. Extensive technical equipment enables us to work from home. The use of sophisticated collaboration software allows for lively interactions with colleges which ensures effective collaborations. Fast internet as well as high-end camera and audio systems guarantee for smooth running online conferences and non-contact meetings with clients. If one does have to come to the office, the person sanitizes hands at the entrance, wears a mask, is tested before entering the workspace and keeps an adequate distance to others which is easy thanks to our spacious office. In cooperation with a rapid test center our employees are being tested for SARS-CoV-2 on four days per week every morning. They receive the results immediately, hence before they start their workday.

In order to maintain our strong SKC team spirit despite home office and social distancing, our social committee has introduced many new activities. These days we regularly meet up in video calls online for coffee chit-chat or remote pub quiz evenings afterwork. Furthermore, our managing director offers monthly negotiation training classes for those interested based on the Harvard Law School Master Program on Negotiation which he successfully completed in the USA in 2019.

Although we are really looking forward to the time when we are vaccinated and the pandemic is under control, we are glad and grateful that we are well equipped to meet the current challenges and therefore our resilient team faces the upcoming weeks and months optimistically. In that sense, we wish you all Happy Easter.
