Dealing with the G-BA

SKC’s top 5 essentials

The German Federal Joint Committee (Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss, G-BA) is the highest self-governing body in the German healthcare system and the main decision maker in the AMNOG process. Therefore, establishing a positive relationship right from the first point of contact is crucial and should not be overlooked in the overall market access process.

In Germany, the entire communication with the German HTA bodies and the official documentation of the market access process is in German. Obviously, the members of the G-BA and the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (Institut für Qualität und Wirtschaftlichkeit im Gesundheitswesen, IQWiG) speak English and out of goodwill sometimes allow communication in English – which cannot be relied on though. Therefore, it is essential and advisable to have one German speaking communication point.

In the overall process it is important to understand the interests of both sides. For some situations or situational changes, it might even make sense to contact and inform the G-BA directly apart from the regular communication points. SKC supports clients in an all-encompassing yet tailor-made strategic and operative manner to achieve the optimal outcome. The aforementioned all-encompassing support includes reliable communication with the German HTA bodies such as the G-BA. Due to numerous market access projects, the senior colleagues of SKC and the respective members of the G-BA have encountered each other many times and built a mutual trustful relationship.
